Materials
10GallonsSifted Peat Mossor Coconut Coir
1/2CupPulverized Garden Lime
1/2CupBlood Meal
1/2CupBone Meal
1CupKelp Meal
5GallonsPerlite
5GallonsSifted Compost
Instructions
Prior to starting putting the mix together, be sure sift the peat moss and your compost through a sifter. (Update 2024, I found a better source for peat moss, linked above, and do not sift it anymore since smaller particles and not necessary.)
My sifter is homemade of 2x4's and 1/4" hardware cloth. You will need to sift first and THEN measure compost and peat moss after sifting.
Set out a tarp, dump sifted peat moss on the tarp in the center. Add the lime, blood meal, bone meal, and kelp meal. Mix throughly. Add Perlite and compost. Mix one last time. Store in containers until you are ready to start seeds. Keep the lid slightly ajar if storing.
