The Weekly Digs #51

We looked at the property I talked about a few weeks ago a second time this week and this time brought the kids with us. It was at sunset and everything was so beautiful and peaceful. We came home and decided we better pray about it some more and see how we feel. After a few more days, Cam and I both felt good about it and we decided to make an offer.

Because the home has been on the market on for a long time,  we decided to take a gamble and offer a price that fit in our budget but is way lower than asking (right in line with comparable sales though). I’ll definitely update next week with whatever happens.

My last order of seeds for the 2020 garden came today. I think I am all set for the year and now have everything organized. If you missed my post about what I’m growing this year, you can find it HERE.

In the Garden:

I took some pictures of the how the garden looks right now. This time of year things aren’t very pretty but the good news is it’s still producing!

Collards

This is my first year growing collards my garden. I have been amazed with how well they have done! Definitely one of my favorites for my winter garden. We have picked at these for months!

Radishes and Beets
Kale, Tatsoi, and Carrots
Brussel Sprouts

I’m not sure if I’ll get a harvest from these Brussel Sprouts. They are forming but very small right now. In winter plants can deteriorate quickly so we’ll see!

Spinach

This spinach as been completely exposed all year. Even though it has a little tip burn from cold it still looks pretty good! I have fencing over it so my chickens don’t dig it up. The chickens roam around the garden during winter.

  1. Hello. I am really enjoying your blog. 🙂 What type of shelving do you use in your storage? Pantry stuff is heavy and I’m always worried that all that hard work will just CRASH. Thank you for any insight and happy growing! We are in Houston and have about 3500 to 4000 sq.ft. growing space.

    1. Hi Marta! Thank you! 🙂 I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog.

The shelving we use can be found HERE. It works well as long as it is installed properly. I’ve never had any of the shelving crash from the weight. Someday I’d like to upgrade to custom wooden shelving but until then the metal ones work just fine!
