Our Modern Farmhouse (Sources!)

After many years of dreaming and saving up, we finally built our dream home. Doing a custom built modern farmhouse home is both stressful and exciting. It took a lot of planning and so many decisions to make it all happen. This blog post accompanies our full home tour found HERE.

Overall, I’m so happy with how everything thing turned out! For our home plans, dimensions and square footage, check out THIS BLOG POST.

We are still in the midst of doing finishes and decorating. It’s easy to add on those things after the build is finished, and was more important to me to have shell of the home as we needed and use the budget for that.

Everything else I planned, like wallpaper, shiplap, and additional furniture will come in the future and be paid for as we save up for it!

  1. Your house is stunning and you did a wonderful job with the layout. I also have serious pantry envy! Do you have the source for your ovens? I think putting the two next to each other was such a great idea!

    1. They are GE Cafe Ranges, one electric, one induction cooktop. We got them from a place locally called Metro Appliances. It’s interesting though, I’ve gone back and checked and they no longer sell that same range with induction, you can only find it for gas or electric now. I got the brushed bronze handles to go with it, they are sold separately because the provided color combo is Black/stainless steel handles.

If you get the white oven it comes with the brushed bronze handles and knobs. Here is a link to it at Home Depot https://rstyle.me/+4g_n-JmITvmB9HyIJ_XaWw – although, it seems to be out of stock there too! Bummer!

  2. Do you like your washer and dryer? If so, could you share what you have? We are on a well…with 3 boys…and I can’t get anything clean! Have you found detergent you like??

    1. Honestly, they are just ok. They are Whirlpool and we’ve had them for the last 12 years! If they stop working I am going back to a top loading machine with an agitator. The front loading ones I have don’t use enough water to get clothes really clean. I don’t have a detergent that I love either, so sorry! I feel like this is such a lame answer 🙂 We do a liquid detergent plus a big scoop of Oxyclean for each load and it helps a ton to get things more clean and smelling better.

  3. Beautiful home! Thank you for all of the details and pics. I am in the planning process for a similar ranch style home in Massachusetts and seeing beautiful examples is great inspiration. All of the decisions needed can be so daunting. Well done to you and your husband!

      1. Love your blog. I was wondering during what the color of the kitchen island is and what tile was used in the girl’s bathroom? Thanks!

        1. Island Color- Benjamin Moore Advance, Rocky Coast, Satin Finish.

The tile is from Flooring America. It didn’t have a brand attached as far as I know but on our receipt it says “Octagon & Dot Field Tile White 2×2 Mounted 12×12.” Hope that helps!

  4. I love your home and it inspired us to build our own home with a similar layout to yours. We are currently researching a soaker tub for the master bath. Yours looks to be exactly what we are looking for. Would you be able to share the brand please? Thanks!

  5. Hello, just found your website. You are amazing. I’m so curious as to why you chose one induction and one electric range. What were the benefits? My husband and I are currently planning our build and your side by side range option you came up with is brilliant!

    1. Aw thanks! We did both because of the flexibility and cost. Induction is more expensive, electric was more affordable. Some pans don’t work on induction. My pressure canner is aluminum and only works on an electric cooktop. But I love induction because it is super fast to heat up and works great with stainless steel, carbon steel, and cast iron pans. I think it may heat faster than an open flame! Also if you have a glass cooktop and induction it is so easy to clean and doesn’t heat anything unless the pan is there so it’s more safe if you have kids around.

  6. We love your idea of doing 2 normal sized ranges side by side and are doing the same for our new build! Do you remember what brand of range hood vent you used? We found one but to get the same look above it as yours we need it to be less deep. There don’t seem to be very many options for that wide and also needing it to be narrow. Thanks!
